Super Catherine Saves Christmas

The first stories I remember telling Catherine were around Christmas time.  We had just moved to Georgia and she was three so the idea of Santa Claus was just starting to appeal to her.  I never imagined she would like storytelling so much so I did not think to keep a record of my stories until much, much later.  However, this is an earlier one and it was requested several times.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Catherine.  She lived in Georgia with her mommy, her daddy, and her little brother, Charlie.  It was December and Catherine was very excited because Christmas was coming.  She was very excited because she would get to go to her grandma’s house and make cookies and open presents.  She loved to get presents.  When it came time for Christmas, she took an airplane back to Omaha.  She went to bed Christmas Eve wearing her new Christmas pajamas and imagining all the fun she would have Christmas morning when Santa came.  Late that night though when everyone was fast asleep, she heard a loud noise on the roof.  She ran up the stairs.  There in the living room, she saw Santa!  He looked very worried.  Catherine asked what was wrong.  He explained that his sleigh had crashed on the roof and was broken.  It needed to be fixed right away and he didn’t know how he was going to get it done.  Catherine said, “don’t worry, this looks like a job for Super Catherine.”  She pulled out her Super Catherine cape and raced to the garage to find Grandpa’s tools.  She hurried up to the roof with Santa and fixed his sleigh.  Santa was so grateful he asked her if she would like to ride along with him to deliver some gifts.  So, Catherine got to ride along with Santa on Christmas Eve to deliver presents to all the good little boys and girls.  She even got to pet the reindeer too.  After Santa brought her back to her bed, she fell fast asleep.  Nobody knew about her adventure.  In the morning, she found a special present under the tree for her.  Santa left her a bell from the sleigh to remember the special night she had with him and to thank her for all of her help.

Notes:  I personalized this in several places. Catherine always gets pajamas on Christmas Eve and her grandfather is very handy so has a lot of tools.  We had talked about the Super Catherine character before which she liked as an alter ego.  Catherine also loves animals and adding the interaction with the reindeer was a detail I knew would speak to her.  She was not familiar with The Polar Express, but if she had been, I would have made sure to add a detail about the bell being audible to only the true believers.
